Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care incorporates a variety of natural treatment techniques to relieve pain, especially in the neck and lower back. After identifying and analyzing a patient’s issue, a chiropractor can correct misalignment of the spinal vertebrae by performing manual adjustments, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, and massage. Among the general public, chiropractors are perhaps best known for performing manipulations of the spine, joints, and soft tissues. Treatment also may involve home exercises as well as health and lifestyle programs. However, chiropractors do not use pharmaceutical drugs or invasive surgery. Rather, they focus on achieving and maintaining health naturally. When a patient first visits a chiropractor, the patient will receive a full evaluation, including a one-on-one consultation with the chiropractor to establish a case history, a comprehensive physical evaluation, laboratory and x-ray analysis if required, and a structural examination with particular focus on the spine. Chiropractors typically work in conjunction with other members of a patient’s medical team, referring out to other providers when necessary. Often, chiropractic care is considered a complementary or alternative form of medicine. While historically the field of chiropractic care has been at odds with mainstream medicine, it has achieved greater acceptance within the medical community in the United States in recent years.
